The Journal of Global Operations and Strategic Sourcing aims to foster and lead the international debate on global operations and strategic sourcing. Maj Gen John J. Nichols is the Director of Global Operations, United States Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. As Director, he serves as the principal advisor to the USSTRATCOM Commander on nuclear operations and is responsible for the day-to-day readiness of U.S. nuclear command and control and strategic deterrent forces. He is also responsible for synchronizing component, joint and coalition operations and directing assigned forces to achieve USSTRATCOM and national objectives.
The Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) program is an educational and research partnership among global operations companies, MIT's School of Engineering, and the MIT Sloan School of Management. The 24-month program combines graduate education in engineering and management for those with previous postgraduate work experience. Students complete a six-month internship at one of LGO's partner companies, where they conduct research that forms the basis of a dual-degree thesis. LGO students are considered full-time students while on internship when enrolled for a minimum of 21 units.
Graduates finish the program with two MIT degrees: an MBA (or SM in management) and an SM from one of eight engineering programs. Graduates have the technical, analytical, and business skills needed to lead strategic initiatives in high-tech, operations, and manufacturing companies. LGO coordinates with the Departments of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering (including Supply Chain Management), Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Nuclear Science and Engineering within the School of Engineering, and with the Operations Research Center of the MIT Sloan School of Management.
This specialist programme will appeal to graduates aiming for a managerial or consulting career within global operations, logistics or supply chain management in the private, public or third sector. You will learn how to manage and improve global supply chain operations and develop an appreciation of its role and function in the context of international organisations.
This programme examines the effects of global trade and business and the significance of grand challenges, such as: increasing digitalisation and innovation in product/service development; international environmental sustainability regulation; and corporate social responsibility and ethics issues.
The programme reflects contemporary themes and developments within operations and supply chain management. You will explore how global supply chains are managed and will acquire the skills and confidence to challenge, innovate and solve problems.
We also anticipate our graduates will join consultancy firms and software developers in areas such as distribution network planning, transportation and purchasing. Typical roles include supply chain analyst, operations strategist, junior management consultant, logistics planner, project manager, production planner, inventory manager and purchasing manager.

We operate distribution centers in all our markets, with 26 distribution centers in EMEA, eleven in Greater China, 14 in Asia-Pacific, seven in North America, and nine in Latin America.
